Know What You Believe in order to defend your FAITH: 2 Timothy 1:12-13 The Plot The Book, The Da Vinci Code is based on two elements: The Priory of Sion and the Les Dossier Secret parchments. The Priory of Sion presented as a European secret society (founded in 1099, according to the book). Truth is Priory of Sion was originally registered in France in 1956 by a Frenchman, Pierre Plantard. Plantard was anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi who was jailed for fraud. He was obsessed with the idea of being an occult master and a descendant of kings. In the 1960's and 1970's Plantard created forged documents. The false papers were supposed to prove the bloodline from Mary Magdalene and Jesus, naming himself as their sole remaining descendant. Plantard, himself, admitted the fraud. BBC did an expose on him in 1996. (Note- In Jerusalem about 1100 there was a group called the "Priory of Sion" organized by crusading French kings. They served as bankers and security for the crusaders. They ceased to exist in 1617). Les Dossier Secret - these are the false papers drafted by Pierre Plantard. He forged and filed these with the Biblotheque National in Paris. Plantard was unmasked in the 1980's. Lies Propagandized in the Da Vinci Code: Intro: The Book, the Da Vinci Code, is presented as a novel--as such, there are no footnotes to verify the authenticity of the "so-called facts and historical events" he has written of. Historical and Factual Errors contained within this book & film: The book claims that there are 666 panes of glass on the pyramid outside the Louve- The truth is there are actually 673 panes The book claims the Olympics were held for Venus in 8-year cycles- Actually they were held for Zeus in 4 year cycles. The book claims that Mona Lisa is an androgynous portrait- a merging of male & female (unisex)- The Truth is Mona Lisa was a young Florentine woman, married to a well-known man. She had 5 children, two of them became nuns. The book claims Sir Isaac Newton was a secret "Goddess Worshipper" - the Truth is Sir Issac Newton was a devout physicist, one of the foremost scientific intellects of all time. His works involved Optics, Mathematics, Mechanics & Gravitation, Alchemy & Chemistry, History & Chronological Studies (he was an avid reader of the fathers of the Church). He wrote on Judeo-Christian prophecy. Man of his works were published. He wrote a commentary on Daniel and revelation...mathematically he reconciled Daniel's prophecy of the "cutting off of Messiah" to the time of Jesus' death. The book claims that the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the 1950's and included the Gospels. The truth is the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1948 and are only Old Testament (Torah) writings. There are many other factual and historical inaccuracies contained in this so-called novel which the author, Dan Brown, claims to contain facts and true historical events. Our Conclusion: An authentic work does not contain inaccuracies while claiming them to be true. In my opinion, this book & film should have been tossed in the nearest incinerator. The publishing of such a book by DoubleDay, is a variance from their time-honored practices. DoubleDay was founded in 1897, it was sold to a German company in 1986 and is now a part of Random House. If you write a novel, it should be that, a make believe story. If you write a historical novel, the historical events should be true, actual historical events. Dan Brown's Intentions Dan Brown has stated that if he were to write a non-fiction book on this same theme, he would not change a thing. With this thought in mind, we can only conclude that the main purpose of this or any writing of Dan Brown is to undermine the faith of those who are not firmly established. It is sad he has chosen the lies of Satan instead of the truth of God. KNOW THIS: This book and movie are bases solely on a HOAX created by Pierre Plantard. Are There Other Gospels? The book and movie make the claim that Gnostic gospels were omitted from our Bible because they revealed that Jesus was not the Christ and He did not die on the Cross. Truth is these writings were not written until the 2nd and 3rd centuries and later, many of them were authored by enemies of Christianity. They tried to deceive believers by using names like, Thomas, Mary and Philip. Mary Magdalene The Gospel of Philip contains a passage that says that the companion of Jesus was Mary Magdalene and Jesus loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her on the mouth..It continues to say that this offended the other disciples and they asked Jesus why He loved her more than them. (Brown says that the word "companion" means "spouse" in Aramaic--the problem with this claim is that the writing he refers to was not written in Aramaic, but was written in Greek and this word refers to a partnership, not a marriage.) Furthermore, neither the Gospel of Mary (Magdalene) nor the Gospel of Philip nor any other Gnostic Gospel say that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene or anybody else. This lie was perpetrated solely by Plantard and was picked up by Brown. If she were his wife, would not Jesus have told them "because she's my wife"? Also, Mary Magdalene stood with Mary, the mother of Jesus, at the cross- Why did Jesus ask John to take care of his mother and not also include his wife? Mary Magdalene was one of the followers of Jesus. He healed her from demon possession. Illiterate readers of the bible sometimes get the idea that she was the adulterous woman in Luke 7:36-50. This woman was an adulteress, not demon possessed as Mary Magdalene was. Who was Mary Magdalene? Just an ordinary woman saved by grace! When did Jesus Become recognized as God? Dan Brown tries to convince us that Jesus was considered "just a prophet" until 325 A.D. and Constantine and the council of Nicea declared that Jesus was the Son of God. The truth is the early church recognized Jesus as the Son of God and Jesus repeatedly told them that He and God the Father were One. Simeon- Luke 2:25-26 God promised Simeon he would not see death until he saw the Messiah- Simeon recognized the baby Jesus, 8 days old, as the Son of God, the Promised one. John- 1 John 1"1.3 John called Jesus, "the Son of God" Thomas- John 20:28-29 After Jesus' resurrection, Thomas acknowledged Him as Lord and God Peter -Matthew 16:16 Peter told Jesus that he believed Him to be the Son of God. CenturionMatthew 27:54 The Centurion at the cross said, "Surely this was the Son of God" Philip & the Ethiopian Eunuch - Acts 8:37 Philip and the eunuch agreed that Jesus was the Son of God Paul Galatians 2:20- Paul said he lived by faith in Jesus Christ the son of God The Biggest Lies of ALL The Bible Dan Brown claims the Bible was written by men, not God. 2 Tim 3:16-17 The Death of Christ -Dan Brown claims that Jesus did not die on the cross, there was a phantom or substitute. The truth- the Roman government has never denied that Jesus was on that cross or that He came out of that grave and walked among the people. He was seen by many during the 40 days after the resurrection. Defending Your Faith 1 Timothy 4:6 Rely on sound Doctrine 2 Timothy 2:15 Study God's Word, accept it as the truth increase your knowledge of HIM As a Christian you should have no fear of a book or movie changing your belief. The danger in this book and movie is that it contributes to the lies Satan has told since the beginning of time. THE BOTTOM LINE: This book and this film were produced for one purpose- MAKING MONEY. DoubleDay lowered time-honored standards, Ron Howard has gone into the depths of deception with this film and Dan Brown will stand before His creator, the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY and give account of this writing.
