  • Church Youth

Cymone Mumphrey received the Charlie and Earl Brown Scholarship on Sunday May 21, 2006 at the Red Springs Baptist Church Graduation Day celebration.
The scholarship was presented on behalf of the Brown family by Vickie Brown Allen granddaughter and Kendell Brown great grandson of Charlie and Earl Brown. The Scholarship is given each year to a Graduating Senior who is a member of Red Springs Baptist Church and who has met the criteria set forth by the Brown family at their annual Brown Reunion held the third Saturday of September each year at the Red Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
The Brown family have been a part of the Red Springs community for over a hundred years. Charlie Brown's parents Robert and Sallie Brown were members of the community after the civil war and have many descendants in the area still today.
Cymone lives in the community with her mother Tina Mumphrey. She is graduating from Winona High School and is attending TJC. Cymone works at Wal-Mart in Lindale. She was a member of the Girls Missionary Auxiliary and has helped in VBS for several years. She enjoys visiting with older people and spent many hours visiting in the Lindale nursing center.
Cymone, Sarah Irish (graduating from Winona High) and Sarah Hensley who recently graduated from TJC were also recognized by the church.
Sarah Irish will be attending Texas Tech this fall and Sarah Hensley has enrolled in North Texas. The selection committee for the Scholarship includes Vickie Brown Allen, Kendell Brown and Claudie Cline Thompson a member of Red Springs Baptist Church and a descendant of Robert and Sallie Brown.
