HUMPHREYS FAMILY PRAYER LETTER/MINISTRY UPDATE

BMAA Partnership Plan
July/August, 2004
"HEY, YOU GUYS" FROM WASHINGTON...
Hello from Western Washington - our busy summer is quickly coming
to an end, though major activities continue through the first
of October.
We have actually seen some of you in person
since we last wrote as we enjoyed a great visit "home"
with family, friends and ministry partners.
In addition we have had some of you come here,
but more about that later. Again, let me say "thank you" for taking
time to read our letter and pause to pray for God's work here...
OUR PRAYER NEEDS...
Let's get first things, first -- our prayer requests:
ALL-CHURCH MEETING TO DISCUSS OUR PREPARATIONS FOR ORGANIZATION
- we're calling together our members and regular
attendees for a "town hall" type informal discussion of our upcoming organization - we must all be on the "same page" - \i God's page\i0 , as we take this step - pray for hearts to be in tune with what God desires for us - the meeting is September 2....this is our major prayer focus right now so I'm not listing any others and we sincerely ask that you join is in petitioning God's throne for wisdom and direction.\line\line\cf2\ul\fs24 OUR BLESSINGS...\ulnone\fs20\line\cf3 We were so blessed to have the John Gentry Family from Tyler, Texas come see us the first week of June and stay with us for part of their vacation to the Northwest - John and I were room-mates at Jacksonville College and it was great getting "caught-up"; the end of June Bro. Grady and Mrs. Norita Higgs were in Tacoma for the Northwestern Association meeting and I had the opportunity to show them around our ministry area and spend a short time with them; the next week our P.A.L.S. (Proclaim And Live Salvation) from Scottsville Road Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY arrived for VBS and a week of seeing the Northwest - these folks were just super! They served the Lord with gladness and through their efforts the Lord put us in touch with five new families who sent their kids to VBS! One continues to send their boys, Dillon and Dalton (great names, huh?!) to Sunday School and Children's Church. Just a week or so after the Kentucky group left we headed south for the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. We didn't know how we were going to handle the mid-summer heat but the Lord had mercy and sent a "cool-front" to take the edge off - we thoroughly enjoyed seeing our family, friends and visiting my home-church, Pilgrim Rest #2, Golden, TX, along with Farley Street, Waxahachie, TX, both great supporters in prayer and finances through the years of our ministry here. Time doesn't allow me to share all the good times, along with some trying times, of our vacation, but it was all in all a great time for us. Though we came home without Emily's luggage (it arrived the next day), and our van stolen (it still hasn't been recovered) and the kitchen sink backed-up (I should apply for a plumber's license) it was also good to get back home! The only thing was that I had to get ready to leave again in a week! Katy, Laura and I left the following Monday for church camp in Oregon - a total of ten from Harvest (our largest group ever) made the trip and had a great time. Attendance at camp was up close to 50% over last year; the Spirit was working, the fellowship was sweet and about 20 professions of faith were recorded! Bro. Roger Pearce and his wife, Debbie were present as Bro. Roger served as camp evangelist (as well as evangelist for revival at Grace, Tacoma the week after). It was good to get to know them better. Bro. Roger was a BMA interstate missionary for about nine years at Grace. Last week Gina and I joined the rest of the Region 1 church planters in Portland, OR for our annual conference and it was a time of encouragement for us - Dr. Kevin Clayton did a great job encouraging us in our ministries and every aspect of the meeting was used of God to build us up - thanks to Rick and Penny Summers of Liberty Baptist Mission, Portland, OR for hosting the meeting. \line Last week Bro. John Lindsey and his wife, Margaret, BMA missionaries to Ghana, West Africa were with us and shared their work with the three Puget Sound congregations - it is always a treat and a blessing to have our missionaries all the way up here in the Northwest! Still yet to come...a brief visit from Bro. Harold and Mrs. Anita Small - Bro. Small is pastor of Mt. Selman Baptist Church, Bullard, TX which is one of our partners. Bro. Small was one of mine and Gina's English teachers at Jacksonville College (is that proper grammar?) and we look forward to their visit; finally (?) she and I fly out September 28 for the National Missions Conference in Little Rock, AR - this is our last "official" meeting as BMAA missionaries and we look forward to seeing many of you then. If you don't normally attend this meeting, formerly called the Missions Symposium, then let me encourage you to
do so this year and I believe you'll be blessed.
As you can see we've been busy! And along the way the Lord has refreshed us, taught us, and hopefully used us to bless others.\line\line\cf2\ul\fs24 ON THE HOMEFRONT...\line\cf3\ulnone\fs20 Most of our "homefront" news has already been covered but I did want to mention a couple of things - while in Texas we found out my nephew who recently returned from Iraq will be transferred to Ft. Lewis, WA this fall! Katy and Laura start school September 1 - this is Katy's Senior year and Laura will be a Sophmore. I have recently completed a series of tests and doctor visits and both my medical oncologist and radiation oncologist feel we've seen the last of the Hodgkin's disease! I will not have to have any more expensive, time-consuming scans - only an annual chest x-ray and an annual check-up with each doctor; in addition my last two blood work-ups for my diabetes show my blood sugar to be excellent for a person \i without\i0 diabetes (5.9% total HGB) - my thyroid was also normal. We praise God for these results and thank you all again for your prayers and encouragement
through it all AN IMPORTANT TIME...
The next four months will be filled with final preparations for
organization, and transition from BMAA support to self-support.
There are some areas where we could be in better shape, but we
know the Lord is going to take care of His work and His workers.
Some have asked if a church's support can continue beyond the project
period, and the answer is that a BMAA church is autonomous and can do
as she wishes. While we would appreciate such a move (and could use
the help) there are other areas of our North American effort and
International work that are in need. What we could use is an offering
or series of offerings to our Special Project fund which is land and
building. No, we don't have a piece of property yet, nor are we ready
to make an offer, but we're in somewhat of a "catch 22" situation
seeing that we need adequate funds to make the down-payment in an
amount which would enable us to have a payment we can afford. We
have some funds on hand but not enough - we appreciate those who
have given so far and ask that you prayerfully consider a gift
to help us with this need - send it to the BMAA Missions Department
marked "Les Humphreys Project". In the next few months we will be
sending out a letter to all partners, former partners, and other
supports with more detailed information about our transition and
future plans.
